This is correct - the Advanced section required for this control option is not available on every computer.

Why?  HP locks parts of the BIOS on consumer grade machines to protect the BIOS from accidental or deliberate changes that could damage its ability to function.  It is a decision meant to protect both customer and HP.

Business grade systems typically include the Advanced BIOS section and other access / control points.

Comments - Not to be confused with statements from HP

In general, and there might be exceptions,

  • Business class computers offer the BIOS Advanced section.
  • Examples of business class systems include and are not limited to:  Zbook / Mobile Workstations, ProBook, EliteBook, EliteDesk, and others.

For example

  • The backlit keyboard timeout option is included in the Advanced section as appropriate (assuming system has a backlit keyboard).

  • At this writing, consumer class systems may not include the Advanced BIOS section.
  • Examples of consumer grade systems include and are not limited to:  Spectre, Pavilion, Envy, Notebook.
