Hi @terryproblem,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When the built-in camera on your HP notebook works briefly and then drops out, it usually points to a driver, permissions, or hardware conflict. Here’s a simple, step-by-step way to fix it:

1. Check Camera Privacy Settings

  • Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.
  • Make sure Camera access and Allow apps to access your camera are turned ON.

2. Update or Reinstall Camera Driver

  • Press Windows + X → Device Manager.
  • Expand Cameras or Imaging Devices.
  • Right-click your camera → Update driver.
  • If that doesn’t help:
    • Right-click → Uninstall device.
    • Restart your laptop. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

3. Run HP Support Assistant

4. Test in HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Restart your laptop and press F2 (or Esc → F2) to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the Camera Test to confirm hardware health.

5. Disable Conflicting Apps

  • Close apps like Zoom, Teams, or OBS that might grab the camera and block others.
  • Restart and test in the Camera app.

6. BIOS Settings

  • Enter BIOS (press F10 at startup).
  • Make sure the Integrated Camera is enabled.
