HP Laptop 17-cp2xxx
8D617UA#ABA
I bought a mini docking station that I needed for this morning (HP Brand not available yesterday)
It's a USB-C type connection.
I have both monitors attached to the docking station and there are no devices detected.
Is this something I cannot use or do I need to update some sort of settings.
My brain is a numbers brain. I can probably do 85% of the taxes of US taxpayers in my head but I need things like this explained to me like I am an 8 year old.
Is it just the J5 dock I bought or are there fixes I need to make on my end?
THanks in advance

Hi @jlzinck,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I see that you are facing an issue with connecting external monitor to your Laptop.
-Perform a power drain on your PC.
1) Unplug the power cord from the PC & wall.
2) Disconnect the power cable from the AC adapter if it is a detachable part and keep it aside.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the AC adapter, then connect it to the wall and to the charging port on your PC.
5) Power on the PC and update the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.
Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.
Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.
Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
-Install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps and let me know if that resolves the issue.
Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.
- If the issue still persists, kindly refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a great day ahead!

Irwin6-
My. My BIOS was the current version. There was 1 update and I downloaded and updated and restarted.
I then plugged in the J5Create 10G/4K60 Mini docking station into the laptop.
I plugged an external keyboard into the USB port on the station and it works.
I then plugged my 2 monitors into the station and they do not work. So I have to assume the docking station is not compatible with the Laptop.
Do you think you could recommend the HPP Docking station to purchase?
Thank you in advance

Hi @jlzinck,
If all the ports on the docking station are working and only when you connect the external monitors, they do not work.
