Hi @Abhishek237

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing that—when a touchpad suddenly stops responding, it can feel like the laptop’s rhythm is off. Let’s walk through a clear and professional recovery to bring your HP Pavilion’s touchpad back to life.

1. Check if Touchpad Is Disabled via Shortcut

Some HP Pavilion models allow toggling the touchpad using a keyboard shortcut.

  • Press Fn + F5, Fn + F6, or Fn + F12 depending on your model.
  • Look for a small light near the touchpad—if it’s orange, double-tap the top-left corner of the touchpad to re-enable it.

2. Enable Touchpad in Windows Settings

Sometimes the touchpad gets disabled in software.

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
  • Make sure Touchpad is turned On.
  • If the option is missing, continue to the next step.

3. Reinstall Touchpad Drivers

Corrupted or missing drivers can cause the touchpad to stop working.

Visit the official driver page:
HP Pavilion Drivers and Software

Download and install:

  • Synaptics Touchpad Driver or ELAN Touchpad Driver
  • Chipset Driver (helps coordinate input devices)

Restart your laptop after installation.

4. Check Device Manager

This helps confirm whether Windows detects the touchpad.

  • Press Windows + X, select Device Manager.
  • Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Look for Synaptics, ELAN, or HID-compliant touchpad.
    • If it’s missing: Click Action > Scan for hardware changes.
    • If it’s present but not working: Right-click > Uninstall device, then restart.

If the touchpad remains unresponsive after these steps, let me know whether an external mouse works and whether the touchpad shows up in Device Manager—that will help pinpoint whether it’s a hardware or software issue.

If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
