@linfairfie, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP Pavilion notebook's touchpad is not responding to scrolling up or down, here are several troubleshooting steps you can take:

Check Touchpad Settings:

  • Open the Control Panel and go to "Mouse" settings.
  • Under the "Device Settings" or "Touchpad" tab, make sure the touchpad is enabled.
  • Look for scrolling options and ensure they are activated.

Update Touchpad Driver:

  • Access the Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting it from the list.
  • Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices" section.
  • Right-click on your touchpad device and select "Update driver."
  • You can also visit the official HP website for the latest touchpad drivers specific to your model.

Re-enable or Restart Touchpad:

  • Some HP notebooks have a touchpad on/off button. Make sure the touchpad is not turned off.
  • Press the touchpad on/off button, which is usually located near the touchpad itself.

Check for Physical Obstructions:

  • Make sure the surface of the touchpad is clean from dirt or stickers that might interfere with its function.

Perform a System Restart:

  • Sometimes, restarting your computer can resolve the issue by refreshing the system and reloading drivers.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure your Windows operating system is up-to-date by checking for updates under Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
