night light & keyboard hotkeys to control brightness stopped working

HP Recommended
HP Notebook - 15-ac022ur (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I am unable to control brightness of the screen with a keyboard and I am not able to start a night light in the settings.

The night light in the settings will not work.

Keyboard hotkey buttons to control the brightness will not work.

I tried:

1) make changes in the regedit - there were no folders with specific names to delete

2) update drivers - did not help, they were up to date.
