@Batwayne11, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Based on your model — HP ENVY x360 Convert 13-ay1062AU — this laptop does support active stylus pens, typically using Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP).
If the HP stylus pen that came with it has never worked, and only shows an orange light when charging, then it's likely one of the following issues:
Try These Steps First
1. Check if the stylus is MPP-compatible
Ensure it's an HP MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen or similar. Look for a button on the pen and a USB-C or magnetic charger — these are signs it’s an active pen.
2. Charge the Pen Fully
The orange light means it's charging. Once fully charged, it should turn white or off, depending on the model. Charge for at least 1 hour.
3. Test Pen Without Pairing
- Most MPP pens don’t need Bluetooth just to write or draw.
- Try opening Paint or OneNote, and see if the pen works on the screen without pairing.
4. Check Pen Button Pairing
If your pen has Bluetooth features (for shortcuts, eraser, etc.):
- Hold the top/back button for 3–5 seconds until the light blinks white — this enters pairing mode.
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device and try pairing.
5. Enable Pen/Touch Input
- Go to Device Manager > Human Interface Devices
- Look for HID-compliant touch screen and HID-compliant pen. Make sure they’re enabled.
- If missing, run Windows Update or install from HP Support Assistant.
If That Fails
6. Try Another MPP Pen
If you have access to another MPP 2.0 pen (e.g. from another HP or Surface device), try it on your laptop. If that one works, then your original stylus is likely defective.
7. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Restart your PC, press Esc repeatedly, then choose F2 for diagnostics.
- Run the Touchscreen and Pen input test (if available).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
