HP Recommended

On the first  day that i switched on the laptop it worked and after that it is not working and i have not seen an icon called rotation lock and oienrtation lock on my settings . If the feature is not available in my laptop then why does it work on the first day and not now,

I have also updated the driveer in the device manager.

I have these in my sensors in the device manager.

  1. AMD UMDF Sensor
  2. \HID Sensor Collection V2

Hi @pr36905

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Screen rotation may have stopped working due to sensor service issues, disabled auto-rotate settings, or a misconfigured driver—even if it worked on the first day.

Let’s walk through steps to restore auto-rotation on your Windows laptop.

Step 1: Confirm Sensor Services Are Running

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Scroll to Sensor Monitoring Service and Sensor Service.
  3. Double-click each and set Startup type to Automatic.
  4. Click Start if the service isn’t running, then click OK.

These services allow Windows to detect orientation changes using the AMD UMDF Sensor and HID Sensor Collection V2.

Step 2: Enable Auto-Rotate in Display Settings

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to System → Display.
  3. Scroll down and look for Rotation Lock.
    • If it’s visible, make sure it’s turned off.
    • If it’s missing, continue to the next step.

Step 3: Check Device Orientation Support

  1. Press Windows + X → select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Sensors and confirm:
    • AMD UMDF Sensor and HID Sensor Collection V2 are listed without warning icons.
  3. Right-click each → select Uninstall device.
  4. Click Action → Scan for hardware changes to reinstall them.

This refreshes the sensor configuration and may restore rotation functionality.

Step 4: Use HP Diagnostics to Test Sensors

Download and open the HP App from:
https://www.hp.com/in-en/shop/apps/hp-app.html

Add your laptop and go to Diagnostics → Input Devices or Sensors.

Run the sensor test to confirm orientation detection is working.

Step 5: Confirm Convertible Mode (if applicable)

If your laptop supports tablet mode:

  • Rotate the screen physically and check if Windows switches to portrait or landscape.
  • If not, press Windows + A to open the Action Center and check for Tablet Mode toggle.

Let me know how it goes after these steps. You’re doing everything right by checking early—let’s bring back the smooth, responsive rotation your laptop offered on day one.
