notebook

i have an HP laptop, i bought it in September for college. the shell in the corner is cracked a little bit so when it closes it doesn't close properly, one side is open a little bit. there was also some times when it would say a cooling fan isn't working properly, it would turn off and when I would turn it back on it would work. but now I opened my laptop and there is a little white dot on my screen that wont go away. i have to call the store I bought it from to get it looked at, but I wanted to post on here to see if there is anything I could do. i tried looking it up and it said I could do stuff but I needed another device which I don't have

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Have you updated Graphics and Chipset drivers?
  • Have you checked the display on an external monitor?

Let’s try these steps to resolve the problem:

I recommend you attempt to access the BIOS screen by tapping on F10 while the computer is restarting,

If the issue persists in the BIOS screen which is outside windows, it would confirm a hardware failure.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I don’t have an external monitor. the closest thing I have is plugging my computer in to my tv. Would that work?

and what is BIOS?

Thank you for posting back.

Yes, you can use the TV as an external monitor to connect your computer.
