I just purchased zbook fury g11 w/4k Dreamcolor 120 Hz display.

1.) I cant find any information on the color depth it supports. What is the color depth?

2.) Can I run the display at 60 Hz and get 10 bit color depth

I'm thinking with 100% DCI-P3 it should support 8bit+2FRC at least

Does anyone have this display on Zbook and is able to set the color depth to 10 bit per channel in Nvidia Control Panel or Intel Graphics Command Center?

Thanks

-Mike

Wow, didn't expect such an in-depth reply with so much useful information about this laptop display.  Thank you so much.  This answers my question 200%!

Hi, so I bought the zbook fury g11 with Dreamcolor display.  When I set the BIOS to discrete graphics the display uses the discrete GPU which in my case is the RTX 2000 ada.  In Nvidia control panel I am only able to set the color depth to 8 bpc.  I tried for both 60 and 120 hz refresh rate.  10 bits is not recognized by the GPU.  This can only mean the panel is not 10 bits or 8 bits + 2 FRC. Also there is no option to set dynamic range to FULL.  Only settings are RGB (4:4:4) and 8 bpc. Also windows ACM automatic color management is unavailable when only discrete GPU is set in the BIOS.

The performance of the GPU in discrete mode is ok but temperature of GPU memory is always high at greater than 60 degC. Even at idle it's high temp 58-68 degC.  The temp for GPU and GPU hot spot is ok though 37-53 degC.  The GPU clocks for GPU, video and memory  speed vary depending on the load which is efficient. How can the Dreamcolor display support 1.07 billion colors if only 8 bpc is supported with the best graphics option in the laptop.

However, when hybrid graphics is set in BIOS the display links directly to the Intel integrated GPU and I am able to set color depth to 10 bpc. Windows ACM is also available as an option under settings -> display.  In hybrid mode all graphics input is channeled through the integrated Intel GPU and the discrete GPU is leveraged when needed by the Intel igpu.  In this mode the discrete RTX GPU clock speeds are always max'd out and GPU memory temps are always high at 60-70 degC at idle.  The display picture looks better in hybrid mode due to the 30 bit color depth, 10 bpc supported when in hybrid mode. Absolutely no color banding or gradient is noticeable.

I have raised support case with HP regarding the GPU memory temps, they helped me upgrade the BIOS but that didn't help.  They want me to send it in for service which will take 5 days to receive it and another 9 days to get it back.  I will open another case with them regarding the discrete graphics mode 8 bpc color depth issue as to why the mighty RTX 2000 cannot set display to 10 bpc at 60 or 120 Hz at native resolution.  If they cannot resolve this one I think I'm going to return the laptop within my 30 day return window.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

-Mike

Hi all, so regarding my purchase of zbook fury g11 with Dreamcolor display, ... HP CASE management just informed me today that the Dreamcolor panel on the G11 only supports 8 bpc color depth so only supporting 16 million shades of color. So major change from G5,G6 and G7 models which all supported 10 bits natively or 8bit+2FRC.   This HP document dated Feb2024 references G11 with the Dreamcolor changes made in 2019 which lead me to believe that the G11 was using the 12 bit LUT -> 3x3 -> 10 bit LUT color pipeline. I though I was going to get 30 bit pixel color.  This is sad as I would have bought a G5 on Ebay for $1600 less than what I paid for the new G11.

Don't get me wrong, the color is very accurate with the G11 but I do see some gradient/banding in some videos with this display that I don't see with my HP 27xG2 Studio display most likely do to the missing color information. After I dropped from the support chat I did some further digging on the panel within the G11, ...

Now I get it, unfortunately after I purchased it.  I will speak to sales regarding this  since I am within my 30 day return window.   I like the laptop but I didnt pay thousands to get an 8 bit panel laptop. I already have two16" 10 bit OLED panels I use with my Lenovo ThinkStation P3Ultra.  I was hoping this Zbook G11 Fury would replace all my existing stuff consolidating to just the single laptop since I am moving overseas and I can take all my stuff with me.

Hope this helps others.
