100MB download speed should be 300MB

HP Envy m7-u109dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently upgraded to 300MB speed and my laptop goes from 10MB to 100MB on it's own but never 300MB. I use wired only on my laptop. I have upgraded the drivers, reset the gateway and set the network adapter to push 1GB. AT&T says they show they are pushing me 300MB. My Samsung phone gets the 300MB no problem on Wi-Fi. Am I missing something? I read that Windows 10 slows you down but who knows if that is true. Any help would be great. thanks in advance.

Brett

@brettdemon

Welcome to HP Community

Please scan your computer for Malwares and Adwares etc.

Then download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Also disable automatically opening software using the MSCONFIG

  1. Search for and open msconfig.

  2. On the General tab, click Selective startup, remove the selection next to Load startup Items, and then click OK.

Figure : Selective startup selection in the System Configuration window

Selective startup button in the System Configuration window
  3. Restart your computer, then connect to the Internet.

Keep me posted how it goes

Hi KrazyToad.

I had done a lot of what you suggested already but there was a lot more to do.

I started from the beginning of your suggestions. I reset the gateway to make sure I wa getting at least 100MB while doing all your tasks.

I did them all and on the last restart I was at less than 9MB per second on a speed test.

I don't know what to do next except buy a new laptop even though this one is so well equipt to run up to 1000MB+.

Hi Krazytoad. I tried the reset. Kind of wishing I didn't as I lost all kinds of things. Nothing that couldn't be set up again like browsers and printers. Anyways I am still at 8MB speed even after that reset. I am now beginning to think it is the laptop as I am getting 270MB speed on my phone thru wi-fi. The problem though is the laptop is fast and works great even with the 8MB. I am at a loss for now. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
