I have a HP Pavilion dm3-1030us laptop with a wireless-n wifi card which I would like to upgrade to wireless-ac? Is there a BIOS whitelist which will prevent me from upgrading?

Hi:
Yes, your notebook's model series has a BIOS whitelist that will prevent any wifi card not listed in the service manual for your notebook from working.
The wifi adapter also must have the HP part number on it, or it will not work.
There are different cards for Intel and AMD platforms as well.
For example, an Intel wifi card will not work in a notebook with an AMD processor in that model series.
