I really hate this thing and unfortunately back when I got it and other support forums urged me to return it, I stuck it out, hoping a software update would make it work. But no. The wifi on it just doesn't work. I am in my "office" with one wall between me and the router and about 25 feet. It's a newer Wifi 6 router. None of my devices, none, have ANY connection issues. Not my 15+ year old iPad, 15+ old MBP, Dell Laptop, smart plugs, smart cameras, iPhone, Samsung, Alexa devices, NONE of them have connection issues. Sometimes if I walk into the room with the router and let it connect and then come back it will stay connected but today it drops every time. Maybe because there are clouds outside. Either way, it seems (IMO) that HP shipped these with bad wifi adapters. Just wish Costco would still take it back.

Hi @Talon_,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Experiencing bad Wi-Fi connectivity on a Chromebook, like the HP Chromebook 14 Inch, can be frustrating. There could be several reasons for poor Wi-Fi performance. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially improve the situation.
- Check Signal Strength: Make sure you are within a reasonable range of your Wi-Fi router. Walls, distance, and other obstacles can weaken the signal.
- Restart Your Chromebook: Sometimes, a simple restart can solve connectivity issues. Try restarting your Chromebook and see if the Wi-Fi performance improves.
- Router Reboot: If multiple devices are experiencing connectivity problems, try restarting your Wi-Fi router. Unplug it for a few seconds and then plug it back in.
- Network Selection: Ensure that you are connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, Chromebooks might connect to a weaker or different network unintentionally.
- Network Congestion: If you're in a crowded area with many devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network, it could lead to slow speeds. You might want to try connecting to a less congested network.
- Update Chrome OS: Keeping your Chromebook's operating system up to date can resolve various issues, including Wi-Fi problems. Check for available updates in the Settings menu.
- Forget and Reconnect: Sometimes, forgetting the Wi-Fi network and then reconnecting to it can help resolve connection problems. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Known networks, then select the network and choose "Forget".
- Check for Interference: Other electronic devices like cordless phones, microwave ovens, and even neighboring Wi-Fi networks can cause interference. Make sure your router is placed away from such devices.
- Hardware Issue: If none of the above steps work, there might be a hardware issue with either your Chromebook or the router. You could try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network to see if the issue persists.
- Factory Reset: If the problem persists and you've exhausted all other options, you might consider performing a factory reset on your Chromebook. This should be a last resort, as it will erase all your data and settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
