Can’t get my laptop to connect to my WiFi.

I received this laptop as a donation. I had to reset it because the password they thought was correct, wasn’t. After the reset, the WiFi wouldn’t connect to my internet. It keeps saying I need an Ethernet cable. I can’t find any switch to make sure it’s on and I’m not tech savvy at all. Please help! 🙂
