[ Edited ]
Product Name: g7-2293nr
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Ever since I d/led Windows 10, I can't connect to the Wifi. It won't even search for any wireless networks or even connect to one via ethernet cord. I believe I need to d/l a new network adapter seeing that this stupid Windows 10 stop making it work. Please help, I am in a pickle and I need to fix this matter ASAP!!!

Re: Cannot connect to the Wifi

Hi

If you could please try this (and post back any info)...

As an adminstrator, in a Command Prompt Window, type

getmac

This will list MAC addresses for those items that are present, and may not be connected.

A good number would be 3,
1 x Ethernet
1 x Wi-Fi
1 x Bluetooth

C:\WINDOWS\system32>getmac

Physical Address Transport Name
=================== ==========================================================
48-48-48-48-48-48 \Device\Tcpip_{D70F15B7-83BC-4FE7-B4B3-8CA52F52C8FC}
B0-5A-DA-DE-84-28 Media disconnected
48-48-48-48-48-49 Media disconnected

and then type

ipconfig

and in the long list look for named devices have a matching MAC address.

Along with Device manager this is a way to determine the number of devices.

Re: Cannot connect to the Wifi

so this is what i got when I typed in GETMAC:

Physical Address                                            Transport Name

20-16-D8-34-D4-C3                                    Media Disconnected

38-EA-A7-D7-F6-27                                    Media Disconnected

Then when I typed in IPCONFIG:

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet Adapter Ehernet

Media State....................: Media Disconnected

Connection-specific DNS Suffix: hsd1.sc.comcast.net

Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi

Media State....................: Media Disconnected

Connection-specific DNS Suffix:

Wireless LAN adapter Local Area Connection* 2

Media State....................: Media Disconnected

Connection-specific DNS Suffix:

and that's all!

Re: Cannot connect to the Wifi

Hi

That effectively supports your original thought that the Wi-Fi is not there.

Next check is Device Manager; View; Hidden Devices (like the screenshot)

Hidden Devices.png

My USB device was once plugged in and recognised, it is now umnplugged and shows as a hidden device, even though it is not present.  Could you please look for your devices, then print a screen shot.

Re: Cannot connect to the Wifi

I cannot send you the screenshot because I cannot get on the internet on my laptop. I'm using another laptop to speak to you on. if you like you can send me your email and/or your cell # and i can send it to you.

Re: Cannot connect to the Wifi

Hi

Listed?  Yes

Then type, as an adminstrator...

netsh wlan show interfaces

netsh wlan show drivers

netsh wlan show networks

netsh wlan show settings

Using "netsh wlan show all" generates screenfuls of data...

  • Wireless adapter driver information

  • Wireless interface status

  • Wireless configuration settings

  • Wireless network filters

  • Wireless network profiles list and details

  • Visible wireless networks

Listed?    No

Then you need to go thru the Microsoft troubleshooting to attempt to locate and install the hardware.

Re: Cannot connect to the Wifi

So I typed the "netsh wlan show all" and a lot of things popped up. Too much to type to you. Is there a way I can send it all to you so you can see it?

Re: Cannot connect to the Wifi

Hi

You have Wi-Fi listed, so that is good news.

(Personally I would take a blank USB and make a bootable USB stick and change the boot order to boot from the USB stick.

I use http://www.linuxliveusb.com/

Please tell me if this is something you feel comfortable with.)

I would go this way because I cannot see how to force an uninstall and reinstall of the hardware in windows on your machine with the difficulties you are having, which is the best next logical step, before the USB.  Locate the device in device manager, right click and scan for Hardware changes.
