HP Notebook - 15-ba090ur (ENERGY STAR)

Recently got a new modem. It connects to everything in the house except my laptop. It runs windows 8. The new network does not show up to select it to connect to. Restarted computer, restarted modem and router. Did a hard reset on modem. Nothing works.

The specs of your machine is

             https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05178720

It has  a 802.11b/g/n (1x1) and Bluetooth® 4.0 combo (Miracast compatible) wifi adapter which supports 2.4GHz networks only. Please allow your router to broadcast dual bands, it will see 2.4GHz SSID and allow you to connect.

Your machine also has slow wired LAN : Integrated 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet LAN

Regards.
