The wifi at my house works great and I am able to connect.  But when I try to connect to the wifi at my boyfriend's house, his wifi does not come up.  Other networks in the area show up, but his doesn't.  He and his roommate are able to connect, but for some reason my laptop doesn't find his wifi network to connect.  Anyone know why or what I can do to fix this?

Without knowing the model number of the laptop, it is a general troubleshooting statement but it might be that your laptop does not have the 5Ghz band WiFi capabilities, but most routers also show a 2.4GHz band, too.  Some routers do not show the SSID, so see if you can provide additional details.
