I got my first HP Chrome laptop. When I turn it on I get one message that says I'm connected to wifi and another that says unable to connect to wifi, but I can browse as a guest. I've tried following a video to fix this issue, but what they show doesn't match my laptop. Thanks.

Hi @Angus357,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you're encountering a connectivity issue with your HP Chromebook 14a. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.
Restart Your Chromebook: Sometimes a simple restart can help resolve connectivity issues. Restart your Chromebook and see if the problem persists.
Forget and Reconnect to Wi-Fi:
- Click on the network icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen (it looks like Wi-Fi bars).
- Find your Wi-Fi network, right-click on it, and select "Forget network."
- Then, reconnect to the network by clicking on it and entering the password.
Check Wi-Fi Password: Ensure that you're entering the correct Wi-Fi password. A wrong password can prevent you from connecting.
Powerwash (Factory Reset): If the problem persists, you might consider performing a Powerwash (factory reset) on your Chromebook. Keep in mind that this will erase all your local data, so make sure you have backups of important files.
- Go to Settings > Advanced > Reset settings.
- Choose "Powerwash" and follow the on-screen instructions.
Check for Updates:
- Make sure your Chromebook's operating system is up to date. Go to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for Updates.
- Also, make sure your router firmware is up to date.
Network Proxy Settings:
- Sometimes, incorrect network proxy settings can cause connectivity issues. Go to Settings > Internet connection > Wi-Fi > Network > Proxy and ensure it's set correctly.
Contact Your Internet Service Provider (ISP): If you're still having trouble, it's possible there's an issue with your internet connection. Contact your ISP to see if there are any known outages or problems on their end.
Guest Browsing:
- If you can browse as a guest, it might indicate that the issue is specific to your user profile. Try creating a new user profile and see if the problem persists.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
