When I enable the Wake On Lan option in the device BIOS settings and shut down the computer, I am able to send the magic package to the LAN card and it wakes up correctly. However, if I take the power adapter off and plug it back in, the WoL function ceases to work, until I boot the device manually.

I'd like to be able to boot this up remotely even after the power cable has been removed for prolonged periods of time and replugged. In Desktop computers we usually see "AC back" function, which means that when the device receives AC power, BIOS will resume its state and power on LAN cards if required by WoL. However, this function seems to be missing for laptops?

Is there a way around this problem, a BIOS update available or even a Beta BIOS which could enable this? How can I get BIOS to remember to enable WoL even after power failures, power cable resets and such?

Thank you!

Jari

@YariLe,

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums.

I understand you are in need of support, I'll be glad to help you out, however, for an accurate solution I will need more details:

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available.

This will ensure if there is any update available for your PC, it will go ahead and install it automatically.

Let me know how it goes for further assistance.

Hope this answers your question.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

Hi, I have now done all the windows updates and updated all the drivers. It did nothing to change the BIOS, and did not resolve the Wake On Lan problem described above.

Do you have any solutions to the problem I've stated?

@YariLe,

It's great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

As I understand you have tried to update the drivers using HP Support Assistant and unfortunately nothing has helped to resolve this issue.

In this scenario, I would suggest you follow the steps suggested in the support document  -  HP PCs - Sleep and Hibernate Issues (Windows 10, 😎

Step 1: Enabling the Keyboard in Windows

Skip this step if the computer does not enter sleep mode or if the computer wakes unexpectedly.

Follow these steps to enable your keyboard to wake your computer from sleep mode:

  1. In Windows, search for and open the Device Manager.

  2. Click the arrow next to Keyboards and double-click the name of your keyboard.

  3. If the Power Management tab is available, proceed to the next step.

If the Power Management tab is not available, click the Change Settings button if it appears below the Device status box. The same Keyboard Properties window opens with the Power Management tab available.

If you are prompted for an Administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  1. Click the Power Management tab and make sure that the box next to Allow this device to wake the computer is checked.

  2. Click OK, and then test to make sure that the keyboard can now wake the computer. If the computer still cannot wake from sleep mode, continue using these steps.

  3. For instructions on how to update the BIOS of your computer, see one of the following HP support documents: Updating the BIOS (Notebooks)

For more steps, please Click here

Let me know if those steps worked for you,

If they did, that's awesome!

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck

The above post does NOT relate to my problem AT ALL. I have no problem with my keyboard or sleep or hibernation. I have a problem with Wake On Lan when the device has been fully switched off and the power cable has been removed and plugged back in.

Can you please assist in my actual problem?

Thank you!
