I am unable to receive emails from Southwest Airlines.  I just noticed this about 3 weeks ago.  Before then, I had no issues.  I have had the Geek Squad check my computer and spoke with Southwest Airlines about this issue.  Southwest says the problem is on my end.  They sent emails to both my Yahoo and Google mail account but I never received.  And yes, I checked the Spam Folder on both accounts.  The Geek Squad recommended I contact Yahoo Support but since it's happening with Yahoo and Google, it doesn't look like a Yahoo issue.  Any help out there?

Welcome to the HP Community --

I just saw another similar inquiry here in the Community -- in that case the customer could not open emails.

Although it rarely happens, in this case I agree with Geek Squad.

Check with your email provider(s).

For example,

Perhaps Southwest email has been marked coming from a machine / third party application and your email provider is blocking emails from that source.  See the comments about 2-Step verification later in this message.

Whatever is going on is likely related to your email provider, your email security settings, or even (if you are using it) your client email IMAP settings.

What?

The computer does not care about a process called "email" except as one of the multitudes of programs and activities running in Windows.  Computers do not "see" email messages and cannot understand email -- To the computer, email is just another process running in the Operating System and interacting with your network and perhaps other devices on that network.  Programs and software,  for example Outlook and the Windows Mail application, define email as a special process that creates, sends, and receives message to and from others on the Internet.

If you think Windows is involved, Check / Run Windows Updates to make sure there are not pending or needed updates that should be installed.

Opening, sending, or receiving emails is controlled your Operating System / version and (most importantly) the program / application / software method you are using to access your email account.

For example,

You might be using your browser to sign into your email provider and use that provider's "email page".

Trouble spots in this case include the browser security settings .  What?  Browser security is not generally something that breaks when it was working before -- That said, if not done, check for your browser security, browser version / update, and any browser related email settings

What else?

If your are using an installed program / client software to access email, the setup used in that client software can (should) be checked.

Example installed programs / client software:  Microsoft 365 Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird

What to check - examples

  • The connection setup used to retrieve emails (when the program is opened) - Open and run / retrieve emails to check
  • Server settings as available in the client email software -- Thunderbird, for example, can use IMAP as a better alternative to POP

What else?

Some email providers are tightening security for third party apps.

Third party apps are those applications or programs that might be used in-between your email provider and how you are accessing your email messages.

For example,

If you are using a program on your computer other than your browser, a Windows Mail application, or an installed email software,

(then)

Your email provider might require that you switch on 2-Step verification and create an App Password for use with the program that is trying to access your email.  An App Password is used in place of the regular password you would use to access your email account.  In many cases, this is more to do with sending emails than receiving them but the concept of secure transmissions (2-step verification) might apply.

What else?

If you are using the Windows Mail Application,

If not yet done,

Open the Windows Mail app,

Consider switching on option (in the upper right) to use the "New Outlook"
