Hi @GCR3,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 17 laptop is having trouble connecting to your home Wi-Fi, here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Wi-Fi Settings

  • Press the Wi-Fi button on your laptop (if available) or use the function key (usually F2, F3, or F12) to enable Wi-Fi.
  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
  • Make sure the Wi-Fi switch is turned on.

2. Restart Your Devices

  • Restart your laptop to refresh network settings.
  • Power off your router and modem, wait for about 30 seconds, then turn them back on.

3. Forget and Reconnect to Network

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks.
  • Select your home Wi-Fi network and click Forget.Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the system tray.
  • Select your home network from the list and click Connect.Enter your Wi-Fi password if prompted.

4. Check Network Adapter

  • Open Device Manager (search for it in the Start menu).Expand the Network adapters section.
  • Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select Update driver.Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
  • In Device Manager, right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select Uninstall device.Restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

5. Run Network Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.Click Additional troubleshooters and select Internet Connections.
  • Run the troubleshooter and follow the prompts.

6. Check Wi-Fi Network Settings

  • Ensure your router’s Wi-Fi settings (SSID, security type, etc.) are correctly configured.
  • Make sure MAC address filtering is not blocking your laptop.
  • Ensure your router is broadcasting on the correct frequency (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz) and that your laptop supports that frequency.

7. Check for Interference

  • Ensure there are no physical obstructions or electronic devices causing interference between your laptop and the router.
  • Verify that other devices in your home can connect to the Wi-Fi network. This helps determine if the issue is with the laptop or the network.

8. Check Power Settings:

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep.
  • Click Additional power settings and select Change plan settings for your current power plan.
  • Click Change advanced power settings and expand Wireless Adapter Settings.
  • Set Power Saving Mode to Maximum Performance.

9. Perform a System Reset

  1. Reset Network Settings:
    • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
    • Click on Network reset and follow the prompts to reset your network settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
