Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

My Wi-Fi connection to the Internet is erratic at best. After booting it will normally connect for a few minutes then drop out..  Occasionally it may connect again - but normally a re-boot is required.

Device: Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn WI-Fi Adaptor

Driver Provider: Microsoft

Driver Date: 18/05/2015

Driver Version: 5.0.57.0

If I try to update the driver under Windows it says I have got the latest version.

I have downloded, and installed  the driver from HP's site (sp72517.exe) but the same problems remain.

Under the events tab, in the Information windows it says

"Device PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_3290&SUBSYS_18EC103C&REV_00\4&24df40c8&0&00A9 requires further installation."

Any suggestions as to how I can restore Wi-Fi operation appreciated.

Kirby

Hi:

That card has issues with the newer versions of W10 and you have the latest driver installed.

So, what I recommend is to just replace the wifi card with this one...

Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo adapter   HP Part # 724935-001

You should be able to find  the card on Amazon or eBay.

Do your search by the HP part number, not the model of the card.

Before installing the Intel card, uninstall the Ralink wifi card and driver in the device manager.

Do the same thing for the Ralink bluetooth software (check to see if it is listed in the windows control panel>programs) and driver.

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.  It is relatively easy to R & R the wifi card.  See chapter 5.

Paul,

Many thanks for the advice. I'll try ordering a new card and give it a go.

You're very welcome, Kirby.

W10 should automatically install the drivers for that model card, but if not, here are the latest W10 wifi and bluetooth drivers HP has for the BCM wifi card.
