HP 15-f222qm wifi upgrade?

Hello! I currently am limited to 2.4ghz only and wish to upgrade to 5G. Is this possible? Can I upgrade the wifi card or is there some sort of adapter that I can plug in to the USB? THANKS

Hi:

You can buy an external USB dual band AC adapter.

They make some nano-size ones that hardly stick out of the USB port.

The AC 600 models have a max throughput of 433 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router, and the AC 1200 models have a max throughput of 867 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router.

Your notebook's internal card only has one wifi antenna cable and the internal dual band cards your model uses require two.

You're very welcome.

Take a look at these and pick one that has a reasonable price and good reviews.

Only look at the ones labeled AC 600 or AC 1200, and you can also see how small these things are as well.

The ones that are N 150 are only single band adapters.

Well I bought the WiFi USB adapter And “installed” it But it did not work. It would never pick up on any of the 5G networks in my house. It’s almost like the built-in ethernet card was overriding the Netgear USB. Would I not be better served pulling out the Wi-Fi card that’s installed in the laptop and putting in a new one?

Are you sure you are connecting using the USB wifi adapter?

You are probably set to automatically connect to the internal wifi adapter.

You have do disconnect from that and reconnect to the USB adapter and check the box to connect automatically.

What model USB wifi adapter did you buy?

That should be connecting to the 5.0 GHz wifi band then.
