I bought an Atheros AR8152 v. 2.0 card to upgrade my HP 7 series pavillion.  After I installed the card I discover that the BIOS is coded to refuse any card not sold by Hewlett Packard.  This is a nasty, underhanded, disgusting practice I will not forgive.  All non-hp vended cards are blacklisted by the bios and it will not pass post.  I installed the card in my ACER notebook and am leaving this message using it instead of the HP machines.  Beward cruel tricks like this.  I thought it beneath HP but I was wrong.

Correction, the card I purchased and installed in my Pavillino G7 is a Realtek Semiconductor RTL8821AE 802.1ac PCI Wireless Network Adapter.  I inadvertently listed the wired nic in my Acer rather than the wireless nic I'm using in it now to send this message.  My Acer Aspire likes it just find.

My objection is that the BIOS on the G7 will not pass post and allow boot with this NIC installed.  This is an artificial limitation which sole purpose is to prevent me from installing standard hardware in an HP machine rather than buying that standard hardware from HP at the price they'd like me to pay.

I am thinking of disabling power to the nic with a momentary switch to allow the bios to pass post and then releasing the switch to allow the operating system to recognize and use the nic.  This would demonstrate that the limitation is artificial but require me to hack the card or the computer with a soldering iron.
