HP All in One 27-r0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi - my HP All in One 27-r0xx continuously disconnects from WiFi. This started several months ago, but has gotten really bad over the past few days. The problem is the WiFi adapter - I have seen that the driver for the RealTek RTL8822PE does not load after a power cycle, so the network troubleshooter thinks it is the ethernet adapter (cable disconnected) - I checked this via the Device Manager. When the driver does load (once in a while), the assistant can fix the WiFi - but only for a few minutes. I used the HP Assistant to download the latest drivers and BIOS yesterday, but no go. I do not have any third party firewalls or virus apps. Everything seems to point to the  RealTek RTL8822PE - people online are saying it is the root cause - should I/can I have it replaced?

Thank you for your help.

Hi:

That model wifi card is plagued with issues.

I don't know what driver you installed, but these are the latest wifi and bluetooth drivers for it.

The ones on your PC's support page are over a year old.

Wifi:   2024.0.10.217     Aug 10, 2020

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp107501-108000/sp107515.exe

Bluetooth:   1.8.1030.3000   Jul 2, 2020

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp105501-106000/sp105891.exe

If your PC has an Intel processor, I recommend you replace the Realtek card with the Intel AX200 non-vPro model.

Hi Paul - thank you very much for your help. I really appreciate it.

The WiFi driver version that I got yesterday via the HP Assistant is: 2024.0.10.209 - which is out of date - I will use the one you sent me.

More importantly, I have the following CPU in my All-in-One: Intel Core I7-7700T @ 2.9 GHz.  This means that I can follow your advice and replace the Realtek card with the Intel AX200 non-vPro model (Amazon has it for $17.69, so that is a no-brainer).  I'll probably take it to a repair shop to swap the WiFi card since it looks tricky to replace at home (unless you think it is easy to do).

Thanks again for your help!

Best Regards.

You're very welcome, Anish.

Yes, your PC is probably hard to take apart and the antenna wires are extremely thin and delicate, so if you do it yourself be very careful to gently remove and reattach the antenna wires.

Below is the link to the service manual...take a look at it and see if you want to do the job yourself.

There will be no procedure to remove and replace the wifi card though.

Here is a service video for how to remove the same type card from a notebook PC.  At least you can see how the antenna wires come off and go on.   Yours will have two of them.

Hi Paul - thank you very much for the detailed advice and links. I very much appreciate your help. After reviewing your support links I am going to get a PC repair shop to do the WiFi card replacement - I don't want to damage anything. I've ordered card from Amazon. I'll let you know how it all works out.

Thanks again for being so helpful.

Best Regards,

Hi Paul - Success!!! I replaced the Realtek card with the Intel AX200 non-vPro model that you recommended (Amazon had it for $17.69, so it was a no-brainer).  I took my HP All in One 27-r0xx to a local laptop shop to swap the WiFi cards - they did it in 1/2 hour yesterday and it cost $60 for labor.  My HP All in One 27-r0xx WiFi is now working perfectly. Thank you very much for your help. I really appreciate it. You saved me from having to spend $1500 to $2000 for a new new machine. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Best Wishes,
