Hi @Geogal,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are experiencing a "scanner overview timed out" error while trying to use your HP Envy 6010 scanner on a MacBook Pro, there are several things you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Restart your scanner and MacBook Pro: Sometimes, simply restarting your devices can resolve the issue.
  • Check your connections: Make sure your scanner is properly connected to your MacBook Pro via USB or Wi-Fi, and that both devices are connected to the same network.
  • Check for software updates: Make sure you have the latest software updates for both your scanner and MacBook Pro.
  • Check scanner settings: Ensure that the scanner is selected as the default scanning device and that the resolution settings are appropriate for your needs.
  • Reset printing system: Open the "Printers & Scanners" preferences on your MacBook Pro, right-click on the HP Envy 6010 scanner, and select "Reset printing system." Then, re-add the scanner and try scanning again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you Alden4. I went through all your suggestions - nothing worked. I then found a conflict with another app. I deleted this app and the printer worked---for a while. Then the info was that the scanner wasnt connected with error code -9923 and the printer would switch off.  So I started again with your list of possible solutions.  This seems to have worked and I was able to scan the document I needed.

Im not particularly impressed with this HP product.  I dislike HP monitoring what I do. I find that this product is constantly crashing and it takes up too much time to go through all the solutions recommended.  I just want to print and scan whenever I wish and without interference and without constant problems.

Nevertheless, thank you for your help.
