HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC - 5ghz dual band WiFi upgrade?

Hi, I am wondering if I can upgrade my network card to one that supports 5ghz WiFi? I am stuck on 2.4ghz and the speeds are killing me. 

I think I would be able to carry out this upgrade myself but I'm unsure of what network adaptor to buy.

Your machine was built around 2014 therefore the chance to upgrade to newer card is very slim. Please try

Thank for the quick repsonse. Why is the chance to upgrade slim? Only 1 antenna?

I ahve googled this partt you have suggested but I will have to find out if its compatible/works before purchasing.

The first thing you need to do is to open up the notebook and see how many antenna cables are connected to the wifi adapter in there now.

If there is only one antenna cable connected to the wifi card in there now, then you could upgrade to this dual band AC wifi card but you will not have Bluetooth.

The Intel 3168 AC wifi card won't even fit in the wifi slot because Intel only made those cards in the M.2 format, and your notebook's wifi card is HMC (Half Mini Card).

If your notebook has two antenna cables connected to the wifi card in there now, then you can upgrade to this dual band AC wifi card and the Bluetooth will work as well.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the reply it is really helpful. I will open my laptop and see hiw many antennas there are. I am not worried about bluetooth so if i lose it I do not really care. Are there any suggested places to buy these adaptors? Amazon?

You're very welcome.

I'm pretty sure you can find either model on Amazon or eBay.

Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

If your notebook only has one antenna cable, attach it to the 3160's Main antenna terminal.

That will be the terminal on the left side of the card labeled '1' and 'Main" will be indicated on the white label.

You won't have Bluetooth because the Aux terminal needs to have an antenna connected to it in order for the Bluetooth radio to get any reception.
