Hello!

I have quite an old (2015) HP Pavilion 15-r063sr laptop running Windows 10 Home with a Ralink RT3290 mini PCI-E wifi card.

Since about May this year (2023) WIndows 10 cumulative updates have been killing my Wi-Fi adapter. Every time a cumulative update installs device manager show errors and says that the driver for the wifi adapter is both corrupted and does not have a valid signature.  I have to uninstall the latest cumulative update every time. Pausing windows updates for as long as I could postponed actually addressing this issue. However this option is no longer working as WIndows won't let me pause updates anymore and I have a daily fight with Windows update. Disabling Windows update for some reason is also proving to be ineffective as windows updates seem to install no matter what I try.

I have tried downloading the drivers from the HP support page for my laptop and reinstalling the driver, but the error does not go away, even if I delete the currently installed driver.  From all of the trawling I've done of forums, it appears that my Ralink Wi-Fi adapter just in't supported anymore under Windows 10 and I should try to upgrade it somehow.

So, my question is what options do I have for upgrading my Wi-Fi adapter? Can I just install any mini PCI-E Wi-Fi adapter or do I need to install one which has a compatible HP part number, if that's the case, then what are my options? I'm prepared to replace the antenna if need be. It would also be good if I could upgrade to a dual-band Wi-Fi adapter.

I hope that someone can help.
