HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab254sa WIFI Upgrade to 5GHz

HP Recommended
Pavilion 15-ab254sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Is it possible to upgrade the wlan card in a HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab254sa to support 5Ghz

The current card is a RTL8723

Eg would an  AC3165  work ?

Thanks

Greetings @Jljunk,

Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are looking to replace the wireless card on your computer. Don't worry, I will be glad to help.

Have you checked the service manual of your computer?

Is your computer working fine?

Recommend you to refer to page number 51 in the service and maintenance guide. Click here

It has a list of wireless cards compatible with your computer and the procedure to install it is also mentioned.

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + BT 4.0 Combo Adapter -- 806723-005 is in the list.

Let me know if this helped.

Hi that page mentions single antenna vs dual antenna.
Is it possible to swap the single antenna 8723 for dual antenna 3165?

Thanks for the reply, you would not be able to swap the wireless card from single antenna to dual antenna. As a workaround, I would recommend you to get a USB wireless dongle to connect the computer to a 5Ghz network.

Hope this helped.
