Hi

I recently bought a HP wireless mouse Z3700 with a USB receiver and after a month it's no longer connecting. Battery is fine, lights up, Bluetooth light blinks, shows up in Bluetooth as an input device, usb receiver connected.

Mouse just doesn't work. Tried updating, rebooting etc, driver uninstall/reinstall. Nothing works. Help?

FYI I have replaced the battery, it is turned on and I've done the basic instructions to no avail. Please don't ask me to complete the most basic steps, already done these.

Hi @Senor_Bandito,

Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

Thanks for detailing everything you've already tried — that helps a lot.

From your description, your HP Z3700 wireless mouse Still lights up and enters pairing mode, USB receiver is plugged in, Shows up in Bluetooth as an input device, Battery is fresh, But it doesn’t move the cursor or respond

Given that, here's a breakdown of advanced-level troubleshooting specifically for the Z3700:

  1. Test the USB Receiver on Another Device

Even though it’s showing up in Device Manager or as connected, the USB receiver itself could be faulty.

  • Try plugging it into another PC/laptop.
  • If the mouse works there, the issue is likely with the USB stack on your HP laptop.
  • If it doesn’t, the receiver is likely defective.

  1. Check for "Hidden" Device Conflicts
  • Open Device Manager
  • Go to View > Show hidden devices
  • Under Mice and other pointing devices, uninstall all entries that look like HP mouse, HID-compliant mouse, or anything with a greyed-out icon.
  • Also do this under Bluetooth, USB Controllers, and Human Interface Devices
  • Then restart your laptop and reinsert the USB receiver

  1. USB Receiver Pairing Loss (Z3700 is Known for This)

The Z3700 USB receiver and mouse can lose pairing — but there is no public pairing utility for re-pairing it like Logitech’s Unifying software.

If pairing is broken:

  • The receiver will still light up and register, but the mouse won’t respond
  • Unfortunately, in this case, HP does not provide a re-pairing tool, and the only official fix is to replace the mouse or dongle

You can try reaching out to HP Support and request a replacement USB receiver, or possibly a whole unit replacement if under warranty.
