Broadcom WiFi chip isn't supported by my OS (BSD), so I needed to replace it.
Following the service manual for this laptop (http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02623161.pdf), I purchased another card that it says is supported: AR9285. But laptop says that AR9285L isn't supported (due to the whilelist).
Why the list is wrong in the manual?
How do I disable the whilelist check?

Hi,
Firstly NO, you can't disable the whitelist check and secondly that is NOT the manual for the series of your machine. Your machines uses the following manual:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02627955.pdf
Source: Last manual on the following link
http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-G42-Notebook-PC-series/4346229/model/5048622/manuals/
Please note: The card may be on the list but manual is for the whole series which can have thousands of different models/products . Your machine is an HP G42-415DX. HP can have HP G42-nnnaa where nnn can be from 000 to 999 and aa can be from aa to zz.
Your machines uses: Broadcom 4313AGN 802.11a/b/g/draft-n WiFi adapter (Shiraz)
Regards.

Yes, Broadcom adapter is the one that doesn't work well in BSD because Broadcom didn't share the spec.
I need to replace the card. How do I find which other WiFi card model is supported?
Or, alternatively, how do I disable the whitelist?
