HP ProBook 6450b
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I migrated my notebook from Windows 7 to Windows 10 without any issues. Network and Internet worked OK. However after removing an old Version of "Watchguard Mobile VPN Client" software that would not work on Windows 10 I permanantly lost internet connection. The device manager shows under other devices "HP un 249 Mobile Broadband Module" with question mark ("?") and no driver is installed for this device. In addition an 2nd "Unknown Device" ist shown.

HP does not offer any support for Windows 10 on HP ProBook 6450b. I tried to install the driver package for Windows 7 (Wireless LAN-Treiber von Broadcom für Microsoft Windows 7, v5.60.350.11, sp49541.exe.). The setup run OK but I still have the same problem. Any idea where I can get the pure driever (.inf) to install it directly in the device manager?

Any ideas how to resolve this issue? Any help woukd be very much appreciated!

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer, would be to try manually installing the drivers you need for the WLAN and WWAN adapters.

This is a W8 driver which hopefully has support for the model Broadcom wifi adapter your notebook has.

6.30.59.82

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp61501-62000/sp61629.exe

If the auto install doesn't work, try manually installing the driver as follows...

Go to the device manager, click on the Network Controller device needing the driver.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.

That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp61629.

Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.

Do the same thing using this W7 driver for the HP un2420 Mobile Broadband Module...but browse to sp53068.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53001-53500/sp53068.exe

The unknown device probably needs this driver...

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp64001-64500/sp64144.exe

If not, please post the hardware ID for the unknown device.

Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID for a device...

Thanks Paul!

Unfortunately that did not resolve my problems.

The WiFi Driver installed without any problems (sp61629):
Broadcom 4313GN 802.11b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi-Adapter v6.30.59.82 HW IDs:

PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&CC_028000
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&CC_0280

Automatic and manual Installation failed for the HP un2420 Mobile Broadband Module.
However, automatic Installation using the Win7 compatitility mode was successfull (sp53068).

Two new devices are now shown under the Ports (COM & LPT) sections:
1. HP un2420 Mobile Broadband Module Diagnostics (COM5):
Hardware IDs:

This device has a yellow exclamation mark and the follwowing message is shown in the status of the device:
"The device could not be started (Code 10)"

A 3rd device appeard under the Network section:

The unknown device ist still present under "Other devices):
Hardware ID for Unknown Device: tap0901

After removing all three devices and doing a search for new hardware the "unknown dvice" does not show anymore.

I also reverted to the Win7 WiFi driver as this did work previously but no success either to get an internet connection.

I have taken screen shoots of the Coms und Network section in device manager:

After:

After:

I also tried installing sp64144. The installation works and asks for a repoot afterwards. However this installation does not seems to do an noticable changes to the system.

I can connect to the WiFi and LAN network but can't get any internet connection.
Ping does not work either.
When using the network trouble shooting option I get a message that not all problems could be resolved and that there might be a problem for the drivers for the network interface adapters for WLAN, Mobile Phone and LAN.

I also tried to revert to Win7 to resolve the problems and then remigrate to Win10. Unfortunately that does not work either as I am told to remove the Adninistrator account that was added after migration to Win7. I activated the built in Admin account after the migration. Disabling again gives me the same error message and I cannot remove the account due to the fact that it is a bulit in account.  Hence, no possibility to undo the migration from Win7 to Win10.

I am considering installing Win7 from scratch but my problem is that I do not have a baclup of my Win7 license key.

Any other idea how to resolve the problem?

Your support is very much appreciated!

Regards
Pocker

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to help you with the WWAN card or the other device.

The wifi...see if this W8.1 driver works for that ID.  It does contain driver support for it.

If that driver doesn't get the wifi to work, I suggest you go back to W7, where everything works properly.
