the printer stopped printing in color from my laptop.  If a color document is placed on the glass, it will copy in color.  Also print levels are ok.

Hi @louie26,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP DeskJet 3830 printer has suddenly stopped printing in color from your laptop, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue. Here's a step-by-step guide.

Check Ink Levels:

  • Ensure that there is sufficient color ink in the printer cartridges. If the color cartridge is empty or low on ink, it won't be able to print in color.

Printer Settings:

  • Open the document you want to print and go to the print settings or printer properties on your laptop.
  • Make sure that the printer is set to print in color. Sometimes, the default setting can change accidentally. Look for an option like "Color" or "Black & Color" and select the appropriate one.

Printer Software:

  • Update or reinstall the printer driver on your laptop. You can often find the latest drivers on the HP website. Ensure you download the correct driver for your specific printer model and your laptop's operating system.

Restart Both Devices:

  • Sometimes, simply restarting both your laptop and printer can resolve communication issues and refresh settings.

Connectivity:

  • Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your laptop, either through a USB cable or via a wireless network. If you're using a wireless connection, check if the printer is connected to the same network as your laptop.

Print a Test Page:

  • On your laptop, print a test page to see if the issue is resolved. This can help identify whether the problem is with a specific document or a general printing problem.

Driver Defaults:

  • In the printer driver settings on your laptop, check for any advanced settings that might be affecting color printing. Resetting the driver settings to default can sometimes resolve issues.

Color Settings on Laptop:

  • Check your laptop's color settings. Sometimes, laptops have color settings that can override the printer's settings. Ensure your laptop's display settings or color management settings are not set to grayscale or black and white.

Firmware Update:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve printing issues.

Paper and Quality Settings:

  • Ensure that you are using the correct type and size of paper for color printing. Adjust the print quality settings if necessary.

Printer Hardware:

  • If none of the above steps work, there may be a hardware issue with the printer. Inspect the printer for any obvious problems, such as paper jams or damaged cartridges.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and resolve the issue with your HP DeskJet 3830 printer not printing in color from your laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
