My laptop has started expierencing problems today. It is unable to find any wifi networks. When I go to the task bar to manually connect the wifi, a box shows up with a red x in the bottom right corner saying "Not connected - no connections available". instead of the usual wifi symbol. However, when I plug in my ethernet cable, the laptop is able to connect to the internet. I firsted tested to see if my wifi was the problem, but my phone and other devices were able to connect to the wifi without a problem. I went to the device manager to see my wireless network adapter driver (Intel dual band wireless-AC) and found that it was missing. I also noticed that the bluetooth devices do not show up until I select Show hidden devices in the View menu. My bluetooth is also unable to be turned on right now, leading me to believe that the wifi issue and the bluetooth issue is connected, as both issues started at the same time.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • Did the issue start after any Windows update?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

While you respond to that, I recommend you download and install HP support assistant from the below link and install all the updates. It should automatically find the wireless driver and install it.

Here is how it is done.

 

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

  6. Perform any other update management actions as needed.

    • Postpone an update: Click Remind me, and then select a time preference.

    • Delete an available update: Click the Delete icon  to remove the update from the list and record it in the action log.

    • Review updates status: Click Action log below the list to view installed, postponed, or deleted updates.
