Microsoft Windows Vista

I have a HP Compaq Presario CQ60 Notebook PC with Windows Vista Home Premium. I know how to operate basic laptop operations and have some common sence for lroblem solving but am not naturally gifted with tech-sav. This notebook was given to me and its origin was a yard sale. Im trying to make it more than just a paper weight but ive discovered it wont connect to wifi, it only surfs via eithernet!?!? So im following instructions on how to get this thing up to date but im already lost. Im supposed to find 'recovery' in 'control panel' to make a 'restore post' but there is no recovery!! Am i missing something?? What do i do now? And if anyone has any advice for the task of turning this into a wifi-friendly peraonal laptop please leave suggestions cause my head is already hurting...its gonna be a long night...*groan*

Hi,

There is a wifi switch to turn the hardware on or off

I believe some models in that series did not come with a Wifi modules installed and maybe also missing the actual antennas in the screen. On page 56 of service manual you can see the steps to take a look (and also see if the antenna are available to install a module if not present)

If not present you could use a USB dongle to get wifi connection. You could also install Windows 7 on it and maybe upgrade the RAM (some used RAM on ebay for example)

Hope it helps,

David
