@Cameranut

Edits to back off a bit on the rhetoric - too much enthusiasm...

Short answer

You were not likely talking to HP Support.

The answer here and now:

If you wish help from our volunteer workforce (free),

Create a new post on the Community, provide the information, describe the issue, and ask for help.

Discussion

I don't know with whom you were having the conversation - and please do not post details as we cannot make use any information AND the moderators will be forced to remove it later.

The "guy" was just some rat posing as someone he is not.  These people prey on any victim they can find.

The world is rife with these vermin and the Internet is overrun with their kind.

Your printer is out-of-warranty - the best you could have done would be to try to submit a case to the real HP Support and then be rerouted back here to the Community.

The HP Virtual Agent program set employed (used) by HP does NOT route the unwary customer to a scam phone call or illegal site where you are asked for ridiculous amounts of money to fix a print driver.

I hope you did not give out any personal information.

There are a LOT of scams out there - many of which are designed to catch people looking for the 123 hp site.

Follow-up to your experience:

Request for Review

  • I will submit a request that someone review your question / concern.

Worth Noting

  • Our Community is not HP Technical Support, nor are we HP Sales or HP Service.
  • Our request for assistance on your behalf does not influence the outcome:  Our request is not a magic back door into HP Support.
  • The time frame (how long it takes) for a response is not controlled by the Community.
  • If / When there is a response, a Community moderator / agent will (should) post back on this thread before using other methods to contact you.

Note to those reading:

  • Do not contact random numbers posted in a public or private message by “new members”.  Vermin are looking for victims – don’t be next.
  • Please do not post any personal or case information here - we cannot make use of the data.
  • Posting personal information at a public site increases your risk from rats and scammers.

For those reading:

Beware of Fake "123" Sites

The "Real Deal"

123.hp.com - Printer setup from the HP® Official site

https://123.hp.com/

The official HP 123 site is where you can find the appropriate (and free) software and drivers for your printer.

The official HP 123 site is not a website where odd chat boxes pop up on the screen and someone tries to offer you "Services" if you would just give out your credit card and information. Not.

  • There are several “fake” sites listed (in search engines) for “123” – please make sure you are using the actual “HP” site.

  • Notice the website address – the real HP site does not contain any extra verbiage.  For example, there is no “setup” or other extra bits in the address.

  • HP websites are the only websites allowed to use the HP copyright circle/logo.  Look for the copyright on any website claiming to be HP. If in doubt, scroll to the bottom of the Website to find HP copyright logo.  Example:  “© Copyright <year> HP Development Company, L.P.”

  • If you are asked for money to correct "issues" on your computer OR if the “help” wants to log into your computer, you are using a “fake” site. Do not give these people your information!

@Cameranut, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.
