Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My laptop is picking up the Wi-Fi signal and connecting to the network, but still, whenever I open the browser I get nowhere. I just get error messages no matter what I try.

  • "The Wi-Fi you are using may require you to visit its login page."
  • "you might need to sign up with the network's ISP to get access to the internet."
  • "Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server)."
  • "Your connection to this site is not secure"
  • Insecure site
"You attempted to reach _. However, the security certificate presented by the server is unknown and could not be authenticated by any trusted Certificate Authority. This problem may be stem from an attempt to breach your security, compromise your privacy, or a configuration error.
    If in doubt, abort now."
    View certificate | Abort

Other devices do fine connecting to the same network, and display none of the same error or warning messages, so I know it's something about this particular device that's causing the problem. I don't think it's a hardware issue, because I even tried swapping its Wi-Fi card for another one I know works. And it isn't a virus, because I just installed the OS.

Hi

What/Which browser are you using?

What DNS details are you using?

ping 13.107.4.52

and post results please.

I've tried Chrome, Opera and IE8. Nothing worked.

How do I know what DNS details I'm using?

I don't know what pinging 13.107.4.52 means.

Copy, Paste and Save in Notepad, as LBB.bat (not a .TXT) and double click to run.
Preferably run as an Administrator.
OR
Copy and use the individual command lines as needed.

Post anything non-personal, but relevant please.

Im having issues with my Laptop that are similar to yours except i can only connect if im 6 feet from the router and that means any WI-FI router at other locations. once i connect im good to go and can take it 20ft away with no issues but if i shut down the laptop and then turn it on again then i have to go stand next to the Wi-Fi router to get it to connect again. I believe its the Realtech  adapter RTL8822ce that is the issue but im not a expert on computers so who knows.

I went to the second link first. When I got to the part that said to enter "ipconfig" into the command prompt, this is what the results were:

When I got to the part where it says "In most cases the default IP address is 192.168.1.1" I entered that IP into the browser's address bar to see what would happen, and it cleared things right up. Suddenly I could access the internet. I don't know why this worked, or whether I should consider my troubleshooting to now be over.

(I already posted this earlier, but somehow it didn't show up. Don't know if that means there was a glitch or it was removed because I broke a rule, but I'm reposting it).

Hi

So you have an internet connection.

What may be missing/mis-configured are the IP address DHCP gateway and/orDNS.

The above is from my previous ISP (Virgin Media) and I manually chose the settings.

You FIX/Reserve an IP address for printers normally, and anything on a network so it is at a known location.
