I just updated my internet gateway to a newer version of T-mobile's D-100 and my laptop will not recognize the new gateway/router.  I have restarted numerous times and reentered the password, downloaded a new driver, all to no avail.

Hi @danelson

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP laptop won’t recognize the new T-Mobile D-100 gateway, the issue is likely related to Wi-Fi band compatibility or security settings. Creating a secondary 2.4 GHz network with WPA2 security often resolves this.

Here’s how to get your laptop connected again:

Step 1: Create a 2.4 GHz Network on the D-100 Gateway

Some HP laptops—especially older models or those with Realtek Wi-Fi adapters—may not detect certain 5 GHz or WPA3-only networks.

  1. Open the T-Mobile Internet App on your phone or browser.
  2. Go to Network > Wi-Fi Networks.
  3. Tap + Add Network.
  4. Set the Band to 2.4 GHz.
  5. Set Security to WPA/WPA2 (not WPA3).
  6. Give it a unique name (e.g., HomeWiFi-2G) and password.
  7. Save and restart the gateway.

Now try connecting your laptop to this new 2.4 GHz network.

Step 2: Forget and Reconnect to the Network

  1. On your laptop, go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage Known Networks.
  2. Select the old network and click Forget.
  3. Reconnect to the new 2.4 GHz network you just created.

Step 3: Update Wireless Drivers

  1. Visit: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers
  2. Enter your laptop’s model number.
  3. Download and install the latest Wi-Fi or Wireless LAN driver (Realtek or Intel, depending on your system).

Step 4: Run HP Network Check

  1. Open the HP App on your laptop.
  2. Go to Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix or Network Check.
  3. Follow the prompts to detect and resolve wireless issues.

If you don’t have the HP App installed:

Let me know your HP laptop model and whether it uses a Realtek or Intel wireless adapter—I’ll guide you to the exact driver if needed.
