Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11

I am doing online schooling.  I am attempting to download class material and you cannot read what it is saving.  It is jumbled with letters and symbols.  I reached out to my school, and they suggested using Google Chrome as my search engine instead of Microsoft Edge that is on my new HP computer.  So, when i started to do that, it says I have to remove the "S", and that the security of my computer will be compromised.  I have attempted to chat with a real person from HP and I have given up.  Can anyone offer any insight on this?

Please ASK your school to see what is the FORMAT of the class material. Normally they use pdf files but they may have fancy materials. You need to know what they are to have a right reader (software).
