Can I upgrade the wireless LAN card 4965AG in my 8710p laptop with a 4965AGN? And will I witness a noticeable improvement  to my wifi signal?

Hi:

As long as you get the one with the HP part number you can.

There will be one issue though, and that is the 4965 AGN requires 3 antenna cables and your notebook only has two.

You may not get the best signal quality with only two antennas.

My understanding is that you connect the antenna cables to the outer terminals of the wifi card, and leave the middle one empty.

Thanks for the reassurance!  My laptop actually has 3 antenna cables. Its wifi was listed ag draft n. But had only an 4965ag card and my wifi was maxed out at 20 Mps?. Other newer devices at same location received 150 to 200 Mps? I'm hoping for at least 50. Do you know anything else I can check? I found an hp 4965 agn for $20 on amazon...

You're very welcome.

That's great.  My 6910p only has two.

You need to make sure the part number for the card you get is this one, 441086-001, or it will not work due to the BIOS whitelist.

If the one from Amazon doesn't show that part number, there are plenty of them for sale on eBay,

I can only give you the Intel specs on the card...300 MBPS maximum throughput on the 5.0 GHz wifi band.
