HP Pavilion 15-p206TX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

For some time now ( more than 2 years ), the built in WiFi adapter is automatically disappearing  at most of the time & the system shows no WiFi adapter available.

I am using an external WiFi adapter to connect to any WiFi network, at times it is also not working as expected.

After certain time of usage, same issue occurs again - the WiFi adapter disappeared / not listed in the network adapter list

If I unplug the WiFi adapter & plug into another USB port, is started to work as normal again.

So what is the issue with my notebook ?

Welcome to HP support community.

Download and install the HP Hardware diagnostics tool from this link

Once installed, shut down your computer.

Wait for a minute.

Turn the computer On and keep tapping F2 repeatedly on startup to enter system diagnostics.

Select the component test and run a wireless test on your computer.

Refer to this HP Article for assistance.

If the test fails or does not detect the wireless card, it could be faulty.

I hope that helps.

I tried checking with the HP Hardware Diagnostic tool during boot time as well as after logging. Got same result as passed for two tests, as below

But still, i am unable to use the builtin WiFi adapter !!!

Then i tried the tests again with the external adapter connected, that time 3 tests were executed And the results were as below

Now as i have connected to the external adapter i am able to use WiFi with that.

So, once again the same question - What is the issue here ?

Remove the external adapter and run the test, so we can identify what's wrong with the wireless adapter inbuilt to the pc, and use hardware diagnostics tool instead

Install the latest version of the HP Hardware diagnostics (UEFI) on your device using this link: Click here for details

Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.

Click Extensive Test.

Click Run once, or Loop until error.

While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.

If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond back to us.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi Sandy

As you suggested, i installed the latest version of the tool & tried the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI). But only one time i ran the extensive test - as took around 4.5 hrs !!!

So for the 'Wireless Module Check', it showed 'NOT INSTALLED'.
So will it help in reaching any conclusions or should i try the 'Loop until Error' approach ? { But not sure how many hours it will take !!!!!!!! }

This might require remote access of the computer to fix the issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

I hope that helps.

In the link you provided, After I select my country ( which is India ).

  • The page navigated to the new URL ( https://support.hp.com/in-en/contact-hp)
  • There i was asked to sign-in & select my Product - Did those steps
  • Then i saw different page, where i couldn't find the follow up steps you mentioned.

Is there any other URLs available there, for my country ? Or some other steps would help me ?
