Hello

this may seem impractical, but it will be easier to use a WIFI USB dongle. Disassembling the laptop, finding a compatible card, may not be that easy. A USB dongle, generally no compatibility problem, install  in less than 2 minutes!

Hi, @EdWa

This would be the best dual band wifi card you could upgrade to.

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0    HP Part # 710661-001

You should be able to find one on eBay for $20 or less.  Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

Prior to installing the Intel card, make sure you install both the atheros bluetooth and wifi drivers in the device manager, and if there is any atheros bluetooth software listed in the windows control panel>programs, uninstall that too.

Shut down, unplug the PC, remove the battery and install the Intel card.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the wifi card removal and replacement procedure.

The Intel card has driver support into 2019.
