HP laptop not sure model number
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

My wireless board no longer works which is fine. I recently had my laptop connected thru Ethernet and it worked just fine, but now it won’t connect and when I do the diagnostic thing it says Ethernet doesn’t have a valid IP configuration... I don’t know to fix this .. any help would be great!

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

Let's start by power draining the Modem

Remove all the cables from the Modem including the power cord. Leave it unplugged for 20 seconds and put back the power cord. Once the lights on the Modem becomes steady, plug in the other cables.

Also restart the computer and plug back the Ethernet cable and check if that works

If the issue persists, try these steps to disable Fast Boot. This has known to fix this particular issue several times

  1. Right-click on the Start Menu button to open the WinX Menu.
  2. Click on Power Options in the WinX Menu.
  3. Click on Choose what the power buttons do / Choose what the power button does in the left pane.
  4. Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  5. Near the bottom of the window, uncheck the checkbox beside Turn on fast startup (recommended) to disable Fast Startup.
  6. Click on Save changes.
  7. Close the System Settings
  8. Restart your computer.

Let me know how it goes

Thank you and have a great day 😊
