@Francke, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it can be when your laptop becomes slow and frequently drops Wi-Fi, especially when everything seems up to date. Let's work through this together to try and restore your system’s performance.
Wi-Fi Drops – Realtek RTL8852BE Driver Issues
Even with the latest driver, Realtek adapters can sometimes be unstable. Try the following:
Roll Back the Driver:
- Press Windows + X → Device Manager.
- Expand Network Adapters → Right-click Realtek RTL8852BE → Properties.
- Under the Driver tab, click Roll Back Driver (if available).
Install HP-validated Driver:
- Download the official driver from HP. Official HP® Support
System Slowness – Performance Optimization
Since you have 16 GB RAM and free disk space, the issue may be background services or thermal throttling.
Check Startup Apps:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Go to the Startup tab and disable unnecessary apps.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:
- Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI: HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Support
Thermal Check:
- If the laptop feels hot or the fan is always on, dust buildup or thermal throttling could be the cause. Consider cleaning vents or using a cooling pad.
System Health – SFC & DISM Scans
Corrupted system files can cause lag and instability.
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run: sfc /scannow
- Then: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
NordVPN & Network Conflicts
Even if NordVPN is off, its background services might interfere with your LAN.
- Try disabling NordVPN services temporarily:
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc.
- Locate NordVPN Service, right-click → Stop.
- Reboot and test Wi-Fi stability.
Consider a Clean Windows Install
If the system still feels sluggish, a clean reinstall of Windows 11 can help:
- Backup your data.
- Use the HP Cloud Recovery Tool: HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
