HP Notebook - 15-bs289wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

While I'm using the laptop, the internet will disconnect. None of the other devices in the house has the problem wireless or not. I do use the laptop wirelessly. Tends to be a daily issue.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Did you make any changes to the settings of your PC prior to the issue?
  • When was the last time it worked fine?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Firstly, perform Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8.

Next step, BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer. Once it's done uninstall the Touchpad device,

Next, uninstall Touchpad device from device manager.

  1. Press Windows+X to open the menu, and choose Device Manager on it.
  2. In the device manager, expand category "Mice and other pointing devices".
  3. Under this category, right-click on your Synaptics Touchpad driver and click on Uninstall.
  4. You may be required to confirm the uninstallation. Check the box next to "Delete the driver software for this device" and click OK button.
  5. Restart your PC for the change to take effect. After restarting. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.
  6. Do not perform any manual upgrades to the driver until it does automatically

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I had contacted hp before and thought the problem was resolved.  Here is the case ID:

HP CHAT SUPPORT TEAM CRM:0038687001519

This e-mail is with reference to your case ID: 5037826594

As you have contacted HP through HP Chat support in regards to the touchpad issue.

I just did a complete reset of the windows on this laptop a few days ago. It went well except for the one problem and may have solved a problem with internet connectivity. It has not dropped the internet since the reinstall of the laptop:  HP laptop 15-bs2xx      SN: Cnd826636F    Prod. #: 4nd16ua#aba

I followed your instructions in your e-mail with no success.

Did the hard reset

BIOS default

Uninstalled touch pad

I still cannot turnoff the touch pad and do not have the tab in the mouse additions settings to turn it off.

I did some research on this case found that by tapping the upper right corner of the touchpad twice should disable the touchpad.

However, if you would like to disable the touchpad from the Windows then please follow the below steps:

  • In the Windows search box, type TouchPad.

From the results list click TouchPad settings.

  1. Click Additional settings.
  2. To disable the Touchpad when using a USB mouse, check Disable external pointing device when the external USB pointing device is attached.
  3. To determine if the icon for the Touchpad is displayed in the taskbar, and if it is, how it appears, make the appropriate selection under Tray Icon.

If the suggested options are not available in your laptop then please install the Synaptics TouchPad driver. You may restart the laptop once the touchpad drivers are installed. Click here:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03882926 to know more about How to Disable the "Double Tap to Enable or Disable TouchPad" Feature

Thanks for your quick response:

I followed your instructions:

1. Could not disable Touchpad with tapping right (or left) corner of the Touchpad

2, By going to additional settings:

There was no tab or ability to disable external pointing device when external pointing device is attached.

There was no tray icon for Touchpad

3, Tried to uninstall and reinstall the earlier version of the Touchpad driver (link) provided. It would not install the older version.

Could there be an issue in the registry? causing tab to disable when external usb device attached. Here is a screen shot of the mouse/touchpad properties
