I am receiving 300 mbps fiber-optic/wi-fi internet speed, confirmed by the internet service provider and connects on my own desktop computer without any problem. However, on my niece's laptop, only about 100 mbps is possible. A visiting technician suggested 'that's all Notebooks allow'.
Was he right or wrong? Can I do anything to increase the speed? What checks do I need to make, if any? I'm not very tech-savvy, so any replies will have to be idiot proof! 🙂 . Thanks.

The specs of your niece's machine is
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04074937
It ONLY has Integrated 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet LAN, that why. He is/was right. I'm using the following adapter for my older machine
https://www.anker.com/products/variant/3port-usb-30-hub-with-ethernet-converter/A7522012
(Mine is an aluminum version)
Now I've got 2 more USB ports.
Regards.
