Hi @thegoodone007

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I hear you — that sounds very stressful and overwhelming 😟. Let’s go step by step to help you regain control of your Chromebook and your privacy.

1. Make sure it’s really hacked

Sometimes it looks like “hacking” when it’s actually:

Malware in a browser extension

Remote access enabled accidentally

Phishing (fake pop-ups pretending to be system messages)

But either way, the fix is the same: reset and secure.

2. Immediate Actions

Disconnect from Wi-Fi

Turn off Wi-Fi immediately to cut any live connection.

Powerwash (Factory Reset the Chromebook)

Sign out of your Chromebook.

Press:
Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R
→ Click Restart.
→ Choose PowerwashContinue.

This will erase everything on the Chromebook (malware, spyware, remote access).

Check your Google Account

On a different safe device, go to Google Account Security Checkup.

Review:

Devices signed in → remove any you don’t recognize.

App passwords & 3rd-party access → remove unknown ones.

Change your Google password to something very strong.

Re-set up the Chromebook

After Powerwash, sign in only with your trusted Google account.

Reinstall only essential apps/extensions. Avoid unknown ones.

3. Extra Protection

Enable 2-Step Verification (2FA) for your Google account.

Keep ChromeOS updated (Google pushes regular security patches).

Use the built-in Guest Mode or create separate accounts for you and your daughter.

Cover the webcam when not in use (simple tape or webcam cover).

4. If you still suspect spying

If the hacker has access to your Google account, they might have synced browsing history, passwords, etc. → That’s why changing your Google password and removing unknown devices is critical.

If you reuse your Google password elsewhere (Facebook, email, banking), change those passwords too.

Bottom line: A Powerwash + Google account security reset almost always solves Chromebook hacks, because ChromeOS is very locked-down by design.
