Hi @LINDA1985,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Reconnecting your HP 4100 DeskJet printer to your MacBook Air involves a few steps. The process will require you to either add the printer again through the macOS system preferences or reinstall the printer drivers if necessary. Here's a general guide on how to do this:

1. Check Printer Connectivity

  • Ensure Printer is On: Make sure your HP 4100 DeskJet is powered on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your MacBook Air.
  • Restart Printer and Laptop: Sometimes, simply restarting both devices can resolve connectivity issues.

2. Add Printer via System Preferences

  1. Open System Preferences: Click on the Apple logo at the top left corner of your screen, then select “System Preferences.”
  2. Printers & Scanners: Click on “Printers & Scanners.”
  3. Add Printer: Click the "+" button at the bottom of the printer list. This opens the Add window.
  4. Find and Add Your Printer: Your printer should appear in the list. Select it, and macOS will attempt to communicate with the printer. Once selected, click "Add."
    • If your printer doesn't appear in the list, ensure it's connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your MacBook.

3. Check for Software Updates

Sometimes, an OS or printer driver update is necessary for compatibility:

  • Apple Menu > System Preferences > Software Update: Check if there are any updates available for your macOS and install them.
  • HP Website: Visit the HP support website and check for the latest drivers for your HP 4100 DeskJet printer. Download and install if available.

4. Remove and Re-add Printer (If Previous Steps Fail)

If your printer was previously installed but now isn’t working, try removing it from the list in “Printers & Scanners” and then re-add it following the steps above.

5. Use HP Smart App

  • HP provides the HP Smart app, which can help in setting up and managing your printer. You can download it from the App Store and follow the on-screen instructions to connect and manage your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
