HP Envy Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My hp envy notebook doesn't recognize a 5Ghz connection. I have tried reinstalling my LAN driver but it hasn't helped. ISP tech support mentioned that all laptops manufactured within the past decade should be able to support this type of connection. I was wondering if anyone else has the same issue? If yes, is there a solution to it? Thanks in advance

Hi:

I disagree with what you were told.

I would say that until the last year or two, most HP consumer class notebooks only came with single band (2.4 Ghz ) wifi cards.  Now maybe 75% of them have dual band wifi adapters.

If you let me know what model wifi adapter your notebook comes with, I will confirm what I suspect...that your notebook only has a single band wifi card.

If you don't know the model wifi card offhand, you can find the model it is by going to the device manager, click to expand the Network Adapters device manager category, and there you will find the name and model number of the wifi adapter.

Paul,

Thank you for that information.

Here's the information regarding my network adaptor:

Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi M.2 Adapter. Let me know if this is what you asked for.
