@SylvanEFH, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!
I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.
You're encountering a network access issue with your external hard drive (likely a WD MyCloud device) on your HP ENVY Laptop - 17t-cg000 CTO running Windows 11. The error:
\\MYCLOUD-2DPFS is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource.
usually indicates a problem with network discovery, credentials, or SMB protocol settings. Let’s walk through the steps to resolve this:
Ensure Network Discovery is Enabled
- Open Control Panel → Network and Sharing Center → Change advanced sharing settings.
- Under Private network, make sure:
- Turn on network discovery is selected.
- Turn on file and printer sharing is selected.
- Click Save changes.
Confirm You're on the Same Network
Ensure your laptop and the MyCloud device are connected to the same Wi-Fi or Ethernet network. If you're on a guest network or VPN, access may be blocked.
Access the Drive via IP Address
Sometimes the hostname (e.g., \\MYCLOUD-2DPFS) fails due to DNS issues. Try accessing it directly:
- Press Windows + R, type:\\<IP_ADDRESS_OF_MYCLOUD> Example: \\192.168.1.25
- If prompted for credentials, enter the username/password set on the MyCloud device.
Enable SMB 1.0 (if required)
Some older NAS devices require SMBv1, which is disabled by default in Windows 11.
- Open Control Panel → Programs and Features → Turn Windows features on or off.
- Scroll down and check:
- SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support
- Click OK and restart your laptop.
SMBv1 is outdated and insecure. Enable only if necessary and consider updating your NAS firmware.
Credential Manager Cleanup
- Open Control Panel → Credential Manager → Windows Credentials.
- Remove any saved credentials related to MYCLOUD-2DPFS.
- Try reconnecting and re-enter credentials when prompted.
Check MyCloud Device Settings
- Ensure Public Access or User Permissions are correctly configured.
- Reboot the MyCloud device and check its IP address via your router.
I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!
